Clueless in Maryland

I read two of the novels nominated for Edgars this year; didn't like either of them.

I'm not sure what that says about me. Just putting it out there.

  1. Personal taste should always take precedence over what others say (especially when it comes to reviews/blurbs/awards). The books you didn’t enjoy might be loved by others. The fact they are Edgar nominees means zilch in the real world. However harmless or well intentioned they may be, there are always agendas behind reviews, award nominees, etc. No, that doesn’t mean there’s a vast right or left wing conspiracy but it is a very subjective game we’re all involved in (whether it comes in the form of favors and/or taking shots). I’ve read a couple of Edgar nominees/winners that were wonderful and a few I didn’t much care for. You shouldn’t lose sleep over it.

Citizen Vince is the one I remember best. Jess Walter’s novel a few years back. I was glad to see it won the award but I place as much faith in the awards (and their process) as I do in our government (and you already know where I stand on those clowns).

    Keep the faith, brother ...
