The End

The Work-In-Progress is no longer in progress; I finished it over the weekend. I never append THE END to the bottom of a story until I'm officially through with it; now I have.

This project droned on forever, was almost dropped a couple of times. Should it ever see the light of day, Declan Burke and Charlie Stella will each bear responsibility, as they were instrumental in bucking me up to carry on, each in their own way. Note I said they will "bear responsibility," not "are due credit." Let's see how the book is received first.

So now the writing is over--pending editorial suggestions by anyone who might be interested in it--and it's time to start looking for an agent and/or publisher.

Oh, joy.

Congratulations, Dana. It's the end of one long, long road, and the beginning of another.

I met James Ellroy last fall and told him I'd recently signed a book deal on my noir novel. Without missing a beat, he said, "Start another one," which I'd actually already done.

Start another one.

Thanks, Mike. I'm a full subscriber to the Ellroy system, except for his success. I now have half a dozen novels "in the drawer," but I'm sure as hell ready to meet demand should there ever be some.

I plan to spend a couple of weeks watching baseball and getting The Sole Heir squared away in school, then get into the next project after Labor Day.

Join me on the horrific search. Got a response this week that actually said, "it's not you, it's me." And I hadn't heard that one since high school.
